About the Board of CoSN CA

The dedicated Board Members of CoSN CA are the driving force behind the chapter's mission to empower California's K-12 education technology leaders. These individuals volunteer their time and expertise to guide the organization's strategic direction, ensuring its programs and initiatives effectively address the evolving needs of school districts across the state. Their collective experience and passion for leveraging technology to enhance learning are instrumental in establishing CoSN CA as a vital resource for professional development, networking, and advocacy within the California educational landscape. Furthermore, the board actively collaborates with partners across the nation, including other CoSN state chapters and national organizations, to share best practices, learn from diverse experiences, and collectively advance the field of education technology. Through their leadership and these national collaborations, the board aims to foster a collaborative community focused on innovation and the successful integration of technology to benefit all students and educators.

Johan Madrigal is the Founder and Board Member dedicated to establishing the CoSN California Chapter. As the Director of Technology Learning and Support Services at the Los Angeles County Office of Education (LACOE), Johan brings over 25 years of leadership, technical expertise, and a strong commitment to the educational community her serves.

 Mr. José González has more than 18 years of K-12 education experience. He currently serves as the Chief Technology Officer for the Los Angeles County Office of Education (LACOE). While working for LAUSD as the Senior Director of Information Technology, he managed more than $300 million in project and operational funds.

Mike Lawrence is an award-winning teacher, administrator and educational leader. He serves as the Director of Information & Technology at ABC Unified School District. He was previously CEO of Computer-Using Educators (CUE) from 2005-2017 and was named one of the Top 100 Influencers in EdTech for 2023-2024.

Throughout her 25-year career, Ellen Palmer has consistently demonstrated a talent for integrating technology across K-12 curriculum, enhancing both teaching practices and student learning outcomes. Her expertise in educational technology became a cornerstone of her career, leading her to spearhead professional development initiatives that empower fellow educators to embrace digital tools effectively.

Dr. Patrick Gittisriboongul has been involved in information and educational technology throughout his career as an educator and professional for over 20 years. He is currently the Assistant Superintendent of Technology and Innovation for Lynwood Unified School District in Southern California. Previously, he served as the Assistant Superintendent of Innovation for the San Diego County Office of Education where he led county-wide efforts around career technical education, educational technology, professional learning, and data science.

David W. Malone

 David Malone is the Executive Director of Information Technology for the Alameda County Office of Education (ACOE). The ACOE supports 18 school districts, ACOE schools, and over 200,000 students in the East Bay. He was previously the Technology Services Officer (CTO) for San Francisco Unified School District and San Francisco County Office of Education where he served in various technology leadership roles for over a decade. David is a credentialed classroom teacher who holds a Master of Science in Education, with a specialization in Educational Technology Leadership.

 Melissa Dodd is a nationally recognized K12 technology district leader with more than 22 years of experience serving K12 school districts. Previously, Ms. Dodd served as the Chief Technology Officer for Boston Public Schools (MA) and San Francisco Unified School District. She currently leads business and finance operations as the Chief Business Official for Lafayette School District in the East Bay.

 Danny Pasawongse is a passionate leader in educational technology, driving innovation and equity as Executive Director of Technology Infrastructure & Operations at the San Diego County Office of Education. Formerly the Senior Director of IT at Chula Vista Elementary—the largest K-6 district in California—Danny has launched cybersecurity bootcamps, expanded digital access for underserved youth, and built strong partnerships across the region. A community builder at heart, he unites school leaders, tech partners, and students to create safer, smarter learning environments.
